DIET
LOSE 7 POUNDS IN 7 DAYS
revised 1/19/19
In 1999, I was about 65 pounds heavier than I am now. Since then I have been on a journey to a healthier lifestyle and by the Grace of God I have managed to lose almost a third of my weight and keep it off. Along the way I have ate a LOT of cereal and various cereal snack bars. For years, I have joked about writing a book called the TLC Diet. The Tim LaFever Cereal Diet.
On Monday, June 24th, 2013 I went to a week long CIY conference with my Church. I started the week at 160lbs, about 5lbs over my goal weight. The food there was cafeteria. Mostly prepackaged casseroles and entrées. Most of the food looked very good to me and many of the other guests claimed it did taste very good. After years of reading labels, I am aware that a large percentage the entrees packaged for restaurants, are loaded with TRANS FAT. In my opinion, pure poison for anybody attempting to maintain healthy weight. Many are also very high in sodium.
They also had warm veggies, a made to order, Sandwich Bar and cereal all day.
So each day I had a large bowl (2 or 3 servings) of Raisin Bran with about a Tablespoon of fruit loops mixed in and a banana on top for breakfast. Then for lunch I would have a sandwich made of 2 slices of WHOLE WHEAT Bread, a double layer of ham and turkey, a slice of yellow cheese, lettuce, onions and mustard. I would also have a large serving of cooked veggies (broccoli, cauliflower or beans) a small bowl of Raisin Bran for dessert. For Dinner I would repeat what I had for lunch. I would also have several Diet Colas each day.
We got home Saturday before dinner so that night my family and I went out for dinner to our favorite Asian restaurant where I had a dinner that bordered on gluttony. Sunday I had a large plate of home made Nachos for dinner.
By Monday, even though I ate heavy over the weekend, I was down to 153lbs, a full 7lbs lighter than 7 days before. My physical activity for the week was much less than a week at work.
Like I said earlier, I believe that cereal has been a very helpful ingredient in my weight loss effort. The week at CIY helped prove my belief. I make sure my cereals are first ingredient WHOLE GRAIN, and low sugar. I usually mix 3 or 4 different kinds of cereal together in a large bowl, equivalent to about 3 servings and 500 calories. Multi Grain Cheerios and various Fiber Ones are some of my favorites.. Sometimes I add some fruit or a little honey. I commonly have cereal as a side or dessert with dinner. I commonly have a Kashi or Fiber One cereal bar for breakfast, lunch, dinner dessert or before bed snack.
Not all frozen, prepackaged entrees are bad for weight loss. Many are better than most Fast Foods. And many make eating together at home as a family, very convenient. Many weight loss experts teach against consuming carbs. I agree with the idea of avoiding what I call WHITE carbs such as sugars, white rice, pastas, breads, and cereals with enriched flour. I do believe that unless we are Gluten sensitive (only about .05% of the population) that avoiding Whole Grains, leaves out a large amount of nutrients. I believe that Whole Grain nutrients are very good for our digestive systems and also have a low glycemic index which is good for helping maintain a metabolism that aids in maintaining a healthy weight management program.
